About

John has been a Consultant Clinical Psychologist across both independent and NHS services since 2007, and he has worked in mental health for 20 years. He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is both an Associate Fellow and Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). John has trained in a number of differing therapies, such Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). These different therapies allow John to provide specialist psychotherapies for such difficulties as eating disorders, relationship difficulties, trauma (both childhood and adult trauma), anxiety, depression and work stress. This list is not exhaustive and he does invite contact to discuss your needs.

He founded Fox Psychological Services in 2011 and it has grown from strength to strength. John is very proud of the range of therapies and expertise that is present within this service and he closely supervises and manages the team to ensure that the standard of work is always very high. As can be seen on the testimonials tab, John is a warm and determined psychologist who will work with you to understand your difficulties and to offer a timely therapy (if appropriate).

Away from his work with Fox Psychological Services, John is an active academic and researcher in clinical psychology. He is the Clinical Director on the South Wales Clinical Psychology Doctoral training Programme in Cardiff. He has published over 50 research papers in peer reviewed journals and published a book, Eating and its Disorders with Wiley in 2012. He has given talks at various international conferences, including the prestigious World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (WCBCT) and the European Council of Eating Disorders (ECED). He regularly lecturers at various Universities and supervises both clinical psychology trainees and CAT trainees. John is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Associate Fellow and a Registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor within the British Psychological Society. He is also an accredited CAT therapist with ACAT.
